The small chapel with the holy chalice is amazing, and there’s a room you walk through with lots of old books and preserved artifacts. No food, drinks, or hats inside. It’s an easy walk through Valencia’s old town to reach this beautiful cathedral. Entry was 22 Euros for a family of four.

You can see centuries of building history in the cathedral’s mix of styles: Romanesque at the Puerta del Palau, Gothic in the soaring nave and Miguelete bell tower, and Baroque at the Puerta de los Hierros. Inside, it feels solemn and majestic, with stunning Renaissance frescoes above the main altar. The museum has works by Goya and gold-leafed artifacts that reflect the city’s heritage. Climbing the Miguelete is a must for visitors. It’s 207 steps to a 360-degree view over Valencia’s terracotta rooftops and the distant Mediterranean. The cathedral stands in the heart of the city and is known formally as the Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of Valencia. Many people believe the Holy Grail is housed there. Whether you’re into history, visiting as a religious pilgrim, or simply enjoy beautiful spaces, it feels like the soul of Valencia and the living heart of Plaza de la Reina.

The tower costs an extra 3 Euros to climb, and there are lots and lots of stairs. It’s not for the claustrophobic, but the panoramic city view made it worth it for me. The cathedral is stunning, and the audio guide takes you through it expertly. Worth every penny, the experience was exceptional.

For 10 euro, you can visit Valencia Cathedral (La Seu), dedicated to Mary in 1238, and use the included audio guide. It’s a magnificent mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles. You can see the Holy Grail, described as the chalice from the Last Supper. Climbing the Miguelete Tower costs an additional 2 euro and gives you views over the city.

We skipped the cathedral itself and paid €3 each to climb the tower. Those 207 steps were a decent workout, but the views across all of valencia are brilliant. You can also see the bell that rings on the hour. Definitely worth going up.
