Catalina Suites

Catalina Suites cancelled my reservation two days before I was due to arrive, without telling me first, then put the room back on sale for more than twice the original price because of MotoGP. They ignored my calls, so I had to get hotels.com involved. It turned out Catalina Suites had cancelled the booking on its own, then falsely claimed I’d asked for it to be cancelled. After a lot of effort, hotels.com found me another hotel and reimbursed the price difference. I hope they’ll take steps to prevent or punish this kind of behavior. Catalina Suites later admitted the cancellation was because of MotoGP and the chance to raise prices, then tried to sell me the same room for even more. This was the worst customer service I’ve ever had. Other reviews suggest this isn’t the first time they’ve acted in bad faith. Read them before booking. I’d avoid the place unless you’re willing to risk disruption and poor treatment.

The staff were wonderful, and the location was convenient, but the hotel itself was awful. There are stairs everywhere, even on the way to the bathroom in your room, and those stairs were slippery. My room was the smallest I’ve ever seen, and there was no hot water. I also couldn’t leave a review through hotels.com, where I booked. Having to go down those stairs just to use my own bathroom was too much.

The place has a certain charm, and I still liked it. My room was spread over two floors, with the bedroom upstairs and bathroom below. Its only window was a small round one, like a ship’s, looking onto a hidden alcove and nothing else. You’ll need public parking about a five-minute walk away.

The staff were wonderful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It’s a great hotel right in central Valencia, within walking distance of lots of attractions. I’d highly recommend it to couples looking for a nice central stay.
