La Casa Verde - Ruzafa

The beds and lockers were a bit too far apart for my liking, though it didn't matter much for just two nights. The hostel was clean and modern, and check-in was easy with a friendly reception. I also liked having a tablet at the bed, where I watched an episode of a TV show. That felt like a luxury in a hostel.

The reception team is what makes this hostel stand out. They welcomed me so warmly, like an old friend, and were funny, helpful, and there whenever I needed something. Their local tips were great, they sorted out small problems without fuss, and made every guest feel important. The hostel itself is great, but those people are its soul. A huge thank you to the whole reception team, you made my trip.

The hostel was modern and relatively new, and I enjoyed my time in Valencia. But the bathrooms clearly get used by around 60 people a day. The air conditioner cooled the dorms in the evening but was off at night, and the roller blinds in front of the casitas made it hot and stuffy overnight. There were more men than women staying there when I visited. First thing each day, I had to put the toilet seat down. Some guests were inconsiderate too, talking loudly while others slept or using the toilet brush, for example. Next time, I'd book an Airbnb for that time of year or choose a female-only room at another hostel.

The staff were amazing, and I liked the modern design, including the mirror and tablet at each bed. Still, I'm picky about cleanliness, and my bed wasn't clean. There were hairs and other bits under the covers and in the corners. The bathroom and showers were somewhat cleaner, but I wish the bed had been cleaner too. There also wasn't anywhere to put your things when unpacking. Everyone had to open their luggage on the floor in front of their locker, which wasn't comfortable.
