It's easy to fit Torres de Serranos into a walk around Valencia, since it's close to several other interesting areas. The visit doesn't take long, but I found it really enjoyable and memorable, especially for the history, architecture and views. The towers are remarkably well preserved and give a real sense of Valencia's medieval past. Their striking architecture looks impressive from outside, particularly as you approach from the old riverbed park or the historic centre. Climbing up is worth it for views of the old town, Turia Gardens and surrounding streets. A beautiful landmark.
I knew what the towers looked like from photos, but seeing them from directly underneath gave me a whole new sense of their size and history. The stonework and Gothic details give them so much character. Going up to the top was worth the climb. The views across the old town and Turia Gardens were lovely. It didn't feel overly commercial, just authentic and quietly impressive. A short stop that stayed with me.
I love this area. It's a wonderful place to spend time and begin a day exploring the city, with a peaceful, old feel to it. I especially like walking over the bridge and through the castle gates into the centre. The Turia is lovely to walk along in either direction from here. This is my favourite place in Valencia.
Lovely old towers. They were built in the mid-1300s. When you pass through the gates, touch them and you can feel the energy of time. Amazing!
The towers mark one entrance to the Old Town, with the second remaining tower at the other end. Torres de Serranos is one of just two left from the original twelve that surrounded the city 1,000 years ago. The stone outside shows traces of the past, including cannonball and bullet holes. The entrance is open to the public seven days a week when conditions are safe. Bad weather can affect opening times, so check the website beforehand. Sundays are free if you don't mind waiting in line. If you're up for the narrow stairs, the views of Valencia from the top are breathtaking and worth the effort.
