Sercotel Valladolid

The room had a bathtub as well as a shower booth, but I found someone else's hair in the tub. The shower head in the booth was odd, and the water swung between too cold and too hot, so it was unusable. We could also clearly hear road traffic and people talking and smoking right under our window. At first we thought it was open, because the room's sound insulation was so poor. The AC wasn't working during our stay, and even in October the room was hot and stuffy. The rooms are comfortable, with clean, nice bedding and spacious bathrooms. They also provide little hotel items like combs, toothbrushes, shower caps, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. The hotel itself is nice, and the location is fine, near a few bus stops and the city stadium. There's a cafe and a Mc Donald’s nearby.

The breakfast was really good, and the location works well if you're traveling by car. The room, though, was a huge disappointment: old, untidy, noisy, poorly maintained, and smelling of tobacco. Maybe we were just unlucky and the other rooms are better, I don't know. A lamp made an awful electrical noise day and night and couldn't be unplugged or switched off at the power. The bathroom smelled strongly of sewage and chlorine bleach, and the shower water drained badly. We could hear people showering upstairs through the pipes. I uploaded videos of all those horrible sounds. The mattress was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep, even though I take sleeping pills. At 4 a.m. I gave up, took the blanket, and lay on the floor. Imagine that, the floor was more comfortable than the bed! Thank goodness it was the last day of our trip and we only had one night there. It's the worst hotel stay I can remember in ages. At least the breakfast was fine.

Parking was easy, the area was very quiet, and the included breakfast was good. It's a fairly long walk into the city centre, though. The room layout made getting to the bathroom awkward, and there was a lot of dust under the bed, like it had never been moved for vacuuming. We asked reception to clean underneath, but the attempt was half-hearted. The flooring was ghastly, with stained carpet and a cigarette burn, despite the room being non-smoking.

The hotel facilities are good. I felt sick during my stay and asked the restaurant staff whether I could swap my included breakfast for some light food at dinner. They first said no. After I explained the situation at reception and spoke with the Hotel Director, they agreed.
