La Cueva Refugio

The whirlpool was a real highlight, along with the beautiful setting. Lionel was a great host and did a lot to help us feel at ease. The house was comfortable, and the kitchen and bathroom were clean and had the equipment we needed.

We loved having to hike in to reach the place, and the out-of-the-way setting suited us perfectly. It’s still close enough to supermarkets to pick up supplies. The host was incredibly helpful and knew loads about the area. I’ll be back soon!

We spent a peaceful week here and loved the evenings in the hot tub, followed by local wine and stargazing. There’s no nightlife, which suited us perfectly. The accommodation is simple, rustic and clean, with a steep, rocky path leading up to it. We only made that walk once a day. Set high on the hillside, it faces the sunrise and has lovely coastal views. Its fairly central position also made it easy to explore a different part of Gran Canaria each day and see most of the island during the week.

Really pretty place, tastefully decorated and lovely inside, but it’s very remote and hard to reach. Bring your own food, matches, and tea if you want some.
