La Picota

At 8 p.m. I reached Valverde, only to find my room had been given to someone else, despite having reserved it on January 8 for the night of the empalaos. As a Photojournalist, I needed to be there for work. I was traveling from far away and couldn't make the requested 6 p.m. check-in. That time is really inconvenient for closing check-in. I called to warn them, couldn't get through, and left a message about my delay. The owner said she'd arranged another place in a nearby village, over 20 minutes away by car. I had to make that drive after the empalaos procession ended, at around 2 a.m. When I got there, nobody was waiting. I had to call the new hotel's owner in the middle of the night to get someone to come let me in. They said Ana, the owner of La Picota, had told them the previous night that I'd arrive at 10 p.m., which we'd never agreed to. When I called her to sort out the problem, she hung up on me. She never apologized for the mess, and charged me the full amount for the stay. This was my worst experience since I started traveling, and it was shameful. It showed me how little this owner cares about her clients.

We were promised a full refund of €500 when we mutually agreed to cancel because several services weren't available, something the website hadn't explained clearly. Since then, we've tried repeatedly to reach them and sent several reminders, but they've ignored us and still haven't returned the money. The lack of transparency, professionalism, and seriousness is unacceptable.
