The staff were the one real bright spot. They were exceptional and did everything they could to accommodate us. The location is good too, and the terrace has great sunset views. But we arrived with expectations that were too high, and room 10 wasn't as described. It was sold as premium/a suite with a private terrace in the photos, but had no private terrace, and we had to cross the shared terrace to reach it. The flimsy door let in the other guests' noise, and they used the terrace until 11:30 pm. The blinds didn't darken the room, so it was bright white at 7 am and impossible to sleep. The whole layout felt badly designed: the ceiling was low, and at 188 cm I kept hitting my head on lights and ceiling arches. The toilet was by the entrance, with a huge shower, but no hand-washing sink. For that, you had to walk to the other end, where the sink sat beside a huge, useless bathtub taking up a third of the room. The sink was only salad-bowl sized, making even toothbrushing difficult. The windows weren't double-glazed, so outside noise came through too.

This is a lovely old townhouse in the historic part of town, with a great roof terrace and friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are tastefully decorated and all have air conditioning. Just keep in mind it's a bed and breakfast, not a hotel. I'd definitely stay again.

Room 10 was immaculate and romantic, with views from every window of Iglesia Divino Salvador and the city. The design was so distinctive and beautiful it made us feel like we were on a boat sailing through the night. The bath was luxuriously large, and the bed was excellent, so we slept soundly. We also ate on the terrace overlooking the city at l’apéro by Michelin starred Juanlu Fernández. The Ensaladilla de gambas, Croquetas de jamón, Steak tartare de Retinto y Mollete de Atún were excellent, some of the best food we had in Spain. The owner and staff were charming. Thank you for a dreamy stay at La Fonda Antigua - Chic sleep in Vejer. We can't wait to return!

We stayed in room 8, in a separate building with its own entrance. It's not very large, but nicely decorated, and we loved it. There's no mini-fridge or safe, though neither was a problem for us. I would have liked an extra bin in the room, and the small bathroom sometimes seemed damp-smelling. The breakfast was delicious and served on a beautiful terrace with a great view over Vejer's rooftops. We hadn't realized it was included in the rate, so that was a lovely surprise. Reception isn't always open, so it's best to let them know your arrival time in advance. Emilio (muito obrigado) and/or Eugenia will handle the formalities, show you around, and share basic information about town and its main sights. Parking on Calle de los Remedios would be handy, since it's not too far from the hotel. La Fonda Antigua is a stylish place in Vejer de la Frontera, not too cheap and very chic. The service was excellent, and it's probably one of the most stylish places in town. I'm not sure the value for money quite adds up, though prices seem average for Vejer. I'd give it 4.5.

A little seven-room hotel tucked away in the heart of Vejer, with minimalist decor, wonderful views across town, and a very good breakfast. The management is spot on. Highly recommended.
