For €120 a night, this felt like a complete scam. The only thing going for the place is its location. The windows are well insulated, but shut them and you’ll suffocate; leave them open and you hear all the noise and partying in the square. There’s also a bar below the hostel owned by the same person who welcomes guests. The host was extremely hostile and rude, and the teenage girl working as the bar’s “receptionist” was unpleasant from start to finish. She needs anger management lessons and customer service skills. I would never recommend staying here.

There’s a cafeteria at the hostel, which is handy if you want a drink. The rooms are small but do have bathrooms. When we arrived, a man greeted us, handed over the key, and left us standing at the door without telling us where the rooms were. He was rude. The lack of explanation caused trouble later: my husband went out before me, and I was locked in because nobody had told me to open the door before leaving the key. A very friendly teenager eventually arrived and let me out. There’s no reception, and it was 9 in the morning with no one else around.

The rooms were very clean, and the people there were lovely and attentive. It’s right in the city centre, with the port nearby. I’ll definitely come back.

Small rooms and some noise come with the location, but the place was clean and comfortable. If you want to be right among the bars and restaurants in this lively city, it’s a great spot.

It’s a little pricey, though fine for a night’s stay. Parking was a nightmare for me, so use Parkia if needed, it costs €20 a day. The Hostal is tucked away above a bar, and when that bar is open you have to enter through it, which is really confusing the first time. The staff don’t speak English.
