Pazo O Rial

We came to Pazo O Rial for a wedding in a neighboring town last summer, and ended up loving it so much that some of us stayed a few extra days. It was an idyllic, relaxing country getaway. The staff took wonderful care of our large group, and they kindly arranged a group dinner for us. We also ate at the hotel for other meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were homemade, delicious and comforting, with plenty of choices. The pool area is beautiful, and we enjoyed exploring the historic building. The gorgeous weather that week was a bonus. Thanks to everyone at Pazo O Rial for such a comfortable and memorable stay!

We had a great stay and would come back. The manager was especially friendly and attentive, told us about the place's history, and made sure our needs were met. We were traveling with a 5-year-old, and they added an extra bed to our room. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the pool was great, and breakfast had a good range of choices with prompt service. We also liked having aperitivo on the sunny balcony by the bar. There's a nice 6 km run by the sea nearby. Lunch on our first day was less successful: the stewed meat was a bit dry, the fish was okay and the dessert decent. Good value for money overall.

The hotel's common areas were a real pleasure to explore, from the gardens and grounds to the grand rooms off the lobby. The building is made of massive stone, though, so wifi didn't tend to reach our room. When I needed a better connection, that meant spending more time in those lovely shared spaces, which I usually don't do at hotels. This place was a highlight of our Galicia trip. Online photos almost seemed too good to be true, but it looked just as good in person. Villagarcia de Arosa seems a little off the beaten path, which is my best guess for why the hotel is truly affordable. Our room was comfortable, the buffet breakfast was one of the best we had, and we enjoyed eating at the bar. When we arrived, it was one of only two places where my wife had asked, "Can we afford this?"

The staff were friendly, the place was very clean, and the pool was nice. The rooms felt a bit old, and breakfast was the real letdown. That awful coffee, plus the machine that sounded like the end of the world, made me forget I was in a pretty good hotel.
