Hostal del Carme

The kitchen is great, and the hotel’s got a cool vintage charm. I stopped here for the first time while visiting some orchards in the region and was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and funny the staff were. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and every cent was worth spending on a stay here. I’ll add it to my travel stops for the future. Gracies

The restaurant is in a good location and has a beautiful interior, which makes the way we were treated all the more disappointing. We were on our way to Barcelona and stopped for lunch, but weren’t given a warm welcome. We were directed to the bar, among other customers, and one waitress was very unfriendly. Although we ordered the same food as other customers, in perfect castellano but not catalán, our portions were smaller, with no potatoes and less meat, and took longer to arrive. Everyone else got their dishes pleasantly served on nice plates with napkins underneath, while ours was shoved in front of us without one. We were told basic cutlery like steak knives and small spoons wasn’t available, then saw customers on both sides receive those items without asking. We’ve lived in Spain for over 15 years and have spent the last two weeks travelling all over the country. This was the first time we’d ever been treated so poorly.

The rooms are very comfortable, and I can’t find fault with anything. We’ve stopped at this lovely Spanish hotel twice on our way to our apartment near Girona, and the staff have been excellent both times. I highly recommend it and will stay there again in the future.

Breakfast was a bit ad hoc, but enjoyable, and the staff were friendly. The room was beautifully clean, and we had no problems with the hotel at all. You need to be a meat eater for the restaurant, though there’s one fish option, bacalao. That’s not much of a surprise in the north of Spain. The church in Vilagrassa is a joy, with its leaning tower, and worth a short detour. Volveremos!!
