The sea view from the front balcony is fascinating. The apartment is on the second floor of an old house, probably from the mid-19th century, in a row of similar colourful homes right on the beach in the old town of La Vila Joyosa. It sits between two one-way streets, with a narrow one-way road just 2 meters away and the beach 15 meters away. The beach is perfect and sandy. Sun loungers cost 6 Euros a day, with another 6 Euros for a sunshade, but the apartment has its own loungers and a tent, so you can save a few coins. There’s plenty of equipment and kitchenware, including a dishwasher, a washing machine on the balcony, a fridge, kettle, and a two-burner stove. No oven, though. Towels and linen are provided, but there’s no AC. Without AC, you have to leave the windows open, and town sounds carry inside: traffic and passersby, holiday and some weekend music, the nearby cafe hum, neighbours talking, slamming doors, and even arguments. One Friday after 10 pm, someone started drumming very close to the bedroom and carried on late into the night. AC and plastic windows would help a lot. I skipped renting a car, and that turned out to be the right choice. The town isn’t car-friendly, with narrow streets and not many parking spots, though there is underground parking near the beach. Spar is 400 meters uphill, and Mercado Central is a little closer along the same route. The market is open until 14:00 on weekdays and Saturdays. You can take the escalators up through Central park to Chocolateria Valor after walking 200 meters left along the beach from the house. It’s a nice apartment with a magnificent sea view, best suited to people who aren’t bothered by town noise at night.
