Casa de la Serenidad

The manager was grumpy whenever we asked for anything and disappeared as soon as he could. The place was filthy, with ants all over the kitchen and terrible hygiene. There were barely any towels, and the shower curtains in the bathrooms were disgusting. Definitely not recommended.

The attic room had no heat during a stormy November night. The fireplace didn’t work, and strong winds were pushing cold air in through the roof. We messaged the owner to ask if he could bring an electric radiator, but he never replied. The power went out overnight too, so we rushed out when it came back because without electricity we couldn’t even make coffee or tea to warm up. It’s a well-preserved old house with all the modern amenities, but our night there over the November bank holiday weekend wasn’t a pleasant experience.

We found the house cozy and very quiet, with spacious bedrooms. It’s beautiful and must be incredible in summer, though it gets chilly in winter. The fireplaces are there, but lighting and tending them is a bit of a hassle. The bathrooms could use brighter lighting.

The only thing I can praise is how peaceful the village is. The rest of the house was a mess: it was rainy season and half the place had leaks, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, and the toilets kept clogging. There’s no real kitchen, just two electric camping stoves, a microwave, a fridge, and a range hood that doesn’t work. The wood-burning oven doesn’t heat anything either. There’s no heating, only fireplaces, two of which are terrible. They give you one small bucket of firewood, and if you ask for more they try to charge you. The electricity contract seems limited: using more than two things, such as the stoves and heaters, trips the power. Electricity went out in the bathrooms and a hallway and stayed off all weekend. We’re still waiting for the electrician who was meant to come.
