We got there quite late on 07/06/25, but the lovely landlady still let us in. Our room was great, with two bunk beds, an ensuite, and a balcony looking out over one of Villaviciosa's main squares. The shared space was good too, and there was a Camino advice board by reception. Several bars and restaurants are just nearby, right in the center. We'd happily stay again.
The room was clean and comfortable, with four beds and its own bathroom. There was also a lovely balcony facing a really nice park. A great place to stop while doing the Camino.
The slightly musty smell in the room wasn't a big issue since everything was clean. Hostel El Congreso was also in a great spot for going out to eat, sampling ciders, and walking around, and its price and location beat the other options we looked at. I took off a star because breakfast cost an extra 5 euros for white toast, coffee, individually wrapped muffins, Tang, and little chocolate pastries. I could have bought that same sort of continental breakfast downstairs for 1.5 or 2 euros. I still recommend the place.
Sorry about the one star, I meant to correct it. The rooms looked modern and the beds were very comfortable. The food was tasty and good value too. For 9 euros, my pilgrim's menu had a nice soup, main course, dessert, and a jug of wine. Breakfast was good and inexpensive as well. The Wi-Fi connection was really weak, so I'm giving it four stars. Thanks for everything.
I liked the idea of the small rooms and balcony overlooking the park, so I had high hopes for this albergue. But I later found three bed bugs in my things while unpacking, the day after my stay. I had also developed very itchy bites all over, and I'm confident they came from this albergue, though I hadn't realized it at the time. Be careful if you decide to stay here.
