Hotel El Conventin

The host was friendly and the room was fine, but the mattress wasn't very good. The bed was also too short for someone my height, 193 cm.

The room was fine and the staff were friendly, but I booked because I needed a quiet night and a proper rest. The mattress made that impossible. I sank into the middle and could barely shift into a comfortable position, like trying to sleep on soft ground after days of rain. I woke several times with a sore back. If I'd known, I might have chosen the car, uncomfortable as that would have been. Rest was the main reason for staying, and the night left me disappointed.

We left at 2 a.m. because the room had become unbearable, and I let the owner know. There was no offer of compensation, another date, or a refund. We didn't ask for one, though I would have handled it differently when I ran tourist accommodation for five years. If something went wrong, I went to the house to sort it out. I saw that as part of the job. It was an unusually hot February day, and the heating was blasting with its dial removed. The owner said people had broken the dials, and that the heating had been switched off at midnight. But at 12:30 a.m. the radiator was still hot, and it was just as hot at 1:30. Reception was empty, so we called the number provided. After several tries, someone said their phone showed the heating was off and that nothing could be done. Nobody offered to check the room or suggest a fix. They acknowledged it was at least 24 degrees inside, though I think it was hotter. The air felt stifling, our heads hurt, and our noses and throats were dry. We managed through the afternoon, but not the night.

The staff who helped me were so friendly, and everything was spotless. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with lovely decor and complete quiet at night. It's right in the centre. I'd happily stay here again, highly recommended.
