Pensión Araba

We were cycle touring around the Basque region and booked a room at Pension Araba through a booking website, paying 69 euros in advance. We had said when booking that we needed a safe place for our bicycles. Once we arrived, the owner insisted on an extra 10 euros to keep them in our bedroom. We felt that was unfair, especially as the bikes were clean and we appreciated being allowed to keep them in the room. That's a 14.5% increase over the quoted price. We asked whether she'd charge the same for large suitcases, but she didn't answer. We also asked why Pension Araba hadn't emailed us at booking to mention this extra bicycle storage cost, and again got no answer. We believe this was an underhand way for Pension Araba to collect more money on top of what we'd already paid through the booking site, and that this practice should be outlawed. We left totally disgusted, feeling someone had tried to exploit us, and are now pursuing a refund through the booking website. At very short notice, we found a lovely 3-star hotel nearby for the same price Pension Araba wanted, with no extra charge for having our bikes in the room. Not good value for cyclists!

Loli, the owner, was such a lovely and attentive woman. When I left the next day, I went looking for her so I could give her a hug. She's wonderful, and I'll definitely return whenever I'm in Vitoria. Thank you for everything! It's a budget friendly guesthouse right in the center of Vitoria. My room was very quiet and clean, with its own bathroom, and all for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
