I went here for dinner, but the food wasn’t that good despite all the fuss and the way they present it as an upscale place. The menu didn’t even match what they served. I ordered tagliatelle with shrimp in garlic oil and got something in a creamy, cheesy sauce instead.

€95 was a complete rip-off. We’ve had bigger, better rooms for half that price, and Hotel Ares was better when we passed through last time. There was no Wi-Fi on our first day, either. We were first shown a “superior rustic room,” but it was damp, the sheets were damp too, and there was no natural light. It also smelled musty, so we moved to a modern superior room. That one only had a queen-size double bed, and the TV was tiny, stuck in a cupboard where you couldn’t watch it from bed. Hugely disappointing.

Zafra is a beautiful little city, and we only managed one night this time, but we’ll definitely come back. The hotel is lovely, right by the castle (parador) and within walking distance of the shopping street and sights. There’s garage parking for 8 euro, though the height limit is only 2 metres.
