Parador de Zafra

The breakfast had loads of choice and was amazing, and our room was spacious and comfortable. Everyone on staff was kind and helpful. The hotel is in a fantastic building close to the centre of Zafra. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend it.

Parking was the main hassle for us after driving here. Finding a space in the square outside the hotel is a challenge, and the meter was confusing to my tired brain. Reception can sell you a 24-hour ticket for €5 (Sep '25), which seemed easier and worth doing. You have to renew it every 24 hours, and the local parking attendants keep a close eye on things. The courtyard is stunning, the bar felt cozy, and check-in was quick. The hotel is very central, with cheap parking, though spaces are limited. Our room was a letdown. It smelled musty and could use some TLC, and getting to it meant steps and narrow stairs in this converted historic castle. We were offered help and declined, but anyone with mobility issues could have a problem. There was no welcome information, free water, or tea and coffee setup. We also struggled with the Wi-Fi and TV, and the mattresses were very hard. The pool wasn't available, perhaps because it is seasonal. Breakfast was confusing, with too few staff to reset tables and refill the buffet, queues for the only coffee machine, and delays ordering hot items. For a 4* hotel, we expected more. During our one-night stay, the negatives outweighed the positives.

I felt lucky to stay in this wonderful 15th-century castle. Going from reception into the central courtyard was amazing, and the usual service and facilities were good quality. We found stairs up to the battlements too, which was an interesting surprise. The castle sits on the edge of the old town, within an easy walk, and we could park outside.
