Before arriving, I’d read some negative reviews and worried both about Zamora and about possible problems with the hostal. In the end, the hostal was lovely: family-run, with clean rooms, fast internet, and a spot close to the main attractions. Zamora itself was a surprisingly positive experience too. It’s not Salamanca in your face, but it has plenty to offer. I loved how friendly the city felt and how easily I could walk to everything of note. It gets a thumbs up from me. I’ve looked into other places to stay, so if you’re reading this to decide where to book, save yourself the time and stay here. Then just enjoy yourself. Recommended! :)

The rest of the staff were super nice, but the receptionist was rude and unhelpful. We got a room with a shared bathroom, and its door wouldn’t shut because the handle was missing. The bedroom door only unlocked with the master key, so we were told to leave it unlocked, even though it opened onto a shared hallway.

The place was very bad, with poor service and the worst breakfast I’ve ever had, especially for 15 euros. The older woman who owns it was unfriendly and didn’t respect our privacy. She wanted to know where we were going and when we’d be back.
