Etxegana Hotel & Spa

The quiet countryside location has lovely mountain views and works well for hiking or visiting Bilbao and the surrounding area. Our Royal Suite was spacious, with a big jacuzzi, a very comfortable bed, and great air conditioning. The staff gave lovely personal service, and breakfast was an excellent buffet. Since it isn't a cheap stay, I have a few small complaints. The bathroom didn't have a proper shelf for all the creams and toiletries my partner brought, which she wasn't happy about. The bidet seat cover wouldn't stay up because it was too close to the radiator, so it rested against your back while using it. We used the small bottle of bath salts on the first night, but it wasn't replaced for the second. The orange-flavored water I took from the minibar on day one wasn't replaced either.

The spa is beautiful and spotless, and hiking in the region is gorgeous. We brought our two young children, and the hotel was patient with them, though we did feel we had to keep them quiet because the place has such a serene atmosphere. The hotel and its setting are lovely, with great attention to detail, from the quality construction and Balinese wood design throughout to the excellent restaurant food. Our bedroom was very comfortable, with a great bathroom and relaxing music.

We had a wonderful stay at hotel Etxegana. The staff were amazing and helpful, the food was great, and the location was blissfully peaceful. Definitely recommend it for a stay in the Basque country!

I was at a wedding here and really enjoyed the event. The place is comfortable, clean, well equipped, and carefully decorated, and I might stay overnight if I get the chance. The waiters were quite polite and responsive, but forgetful. The menu was original and well prepared, though some things were overcooked. If you ask, they can make another plate with less cooking, no particular sauce, or no allergens. The wine list was okay, but the beer was a very cheap brand and the cocktails were watery.
