Hacienda Minerva

The hacienda is quite isolated, and to me that adds a lot to its appeal. Driving back late at night through endless olive groves, with only the moon and stars for company, then entering through the huge front door that was always open and crossing the typical Andalusian white patios to our room felt magical. The room was excellent, spacious, and looked out over the hills and valleys. The bathroom was huge too. The value for money is unbeatable.

A characterful, beautiful place in a perfect location, with very good service and a great bed and pillows. We had a great meal at the restaurant too, I think. A few small things kept it to four stars: the pool area looked a bit run down, the shower wasn't great, and its handheld head was propped against the wall and sprayed too high. They didn't offer pool towels.

We came to the hacienda on a biking tour, drawn to this area because it follows an abandoned railway right of way. The rural setting has incredible views, and there are many picturesque towns and sights to cycle to. The rooms and hotel amenities felt somewhat tired and less crisp than I expected. Still, the kitchen served lovely breakfasts and dinners, and a bell ring was all it took to get drinks from the bar. One unusual detail: the hacienda is known for welcoming swallows, which nested in the reception ceiling. A very interesting place to stay.

We chose half board on our last visit to this lovely historic hotel, with its comfortable rooms and amazing food. The dinner choices on that plan were limited. I'd suggest letting guests order from the regular menu and pay the difference, or booking bed and breakfast and choosing lunch or dinner à la carte.
