Andromeda Hotel

While I was waiting for my friend, the waitress came over and offered me free tea or coffee. The staff seemed very friendly and knew how to handle customers. I also checked the clean, spacious deluxe room. The rates I saw were $30 for a standard single, $45 for a deluxe, and I think $55 for a suite.

What I appreciated most was the service. When I ran into a minor issue, the owner/manager stepped in personally and sorted it out quickly, which is rare these days. I recently stayed at Andromeda, a cozy, tastefully designed place that felt like a sanctuary amid the city bustle, and everything looked new and well maintained. For the quality and value, it compares very well with pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in Addis. The main drawback is the noisy neighborhood, which might not feel safest for nighttime outings. That wasn’t an issue for me since I travel by taxi. If you can overlook the area’s shortcomings, Andromeda offers comfort, strong customer service, and good value. I’d gladly recommend it.

I’d stay here again, now that I know what to expect and can plan around it. This is a pretty, well-built budget hotel in a handy spot, not too far from most of the places I needed for meetings. The WiFi was good, the generator was quieter during the frequent outages, and the lift worked well. Reception arranged transport to and from the airport for us, paid separately. Breakfast was mostly Ethiopian, and there wasn’t other food or room service, which I missed. Sodas were available for purchase from the fridge at reception throughout the day. They even got me some buna to help with the cold that had settled into my bones. The staff were friendly despite the language barriers, but cleanliness could be better: the same definitely-not-mine strands of hair stayed in my bathroom for my whole visit. The room layout could also be improved, since getting to the other side meant risking a bump into the TV.

The staff were wonderful, friendly, and helpful, and security was there around the clock. When my baby went out, security kept an eye on him and made sure he didn’t wander off, then brought him back for safety. The hotel was very clean, quietly located within walking distance of downtown, and the finishing was amazing. It was also much more affordable than other hotels I’d tried, which were uncomfortable, dirty, old, and costly. Breakfast was amazing if you like Ethiopian food. There were also muffins, tea, eggs, toast, and fruit, with a great variety of options. The only small downside was a few local market shops nearby, but they didn’t affect our stay. Private and public transport were both accessible. I’d love to come back to Ethiopia and stay at Andromeda Hotel again and again, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to feel clean, safe, and welcome.
