Bruhway Hotel

The front desk staff are nice, but the manager isn’t. We stayed here two or three years ago and it was a bit disappointing, so we tried again this year and it was even worse. They said the room had just been cleaned, but it was very dirty and not properly prepared. Roaches were all over the room, bathroom, closets, and even the bed. We couldn’t spend the night. They charge enough that they should be able to fix up the rooms and deal with the plumbing problems. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The sixth-floor city view is incredible, and the staff really do their best to make guests happy. The chefs are terrific, the cafe is top-notch, and the bar's a nice spot for a beer and a futbol game. Having a grocery store on the second floor is handy too. The Bruhway is very well managed and seems like the best hotel nearby. My only suggestion is some renovations, and having a building custodian available every day.

I was there for a day. It was fairly clean, and the customer service was friendly. But when I ordered a coffee, they brought it in a glass chipped all around the rim. Be careful not to cut your fingers. I don't know why they kept those glasses.

Thankfully, I only stayed one night. The price is very high by Ethiopian standards, about what an average Ethiopian earns in a week for one night, so I wonder what sort of tourist they expect. The room was cold, with no carpet or even a small rug. The shower was barely lukewarm, and the hair dryer didn't work. There wasn't a bedside lamp either, and the overhead lights were harsh bright white. Like several hotels in Addis, it seemed nobody checks whether all the room lights work. Very basic hotel.
