Checkinn Hotel

The rooms were clean and comfortable, but what happened as transit guests placed here by Ethiopian Airlines left us feeling watched and restricted. We’re a family of five: four people had hotel vouchers, and the fifth was our 3-month-old baby. At the front desk, our names were on a list and they asked the baby’s age. I explained twice she was only 3 months old, including when they asked if the obviously small baby was 1 year old. Our vouchers said dinner and breakfast were included. At dinner, while we were ordering, a lady stood next to us and asked if the baby would eat. I said again that she only breastfeeds. She left, and the staff member taking our order carried on. When the food came, there were three plates, and my other two children had to share one plate of pasta and a 50cl Fanta. That upset me because we paid full ticket fees for them, the same as adults. It also seemed like they were watching what we ordered to make sure the baby wasn’t included. Breakfast was uncomfortable too. We asked if eggs were available at the buffet. A lady said yes, but the kitchen would have to make them, which seemed normal after the way dinner went. After we waited, the waiter from dinner came over and said they don’t make omelettes for “transit guests.” I just nodded. I was already tired of it. Then he asked for our room number, went to check it, and came back with something we’d supposedly left behind. I was caught off guard. He had been working as waitstaff, and I still don’t understand why he checked the room right then. The hotel itself is nice, but the way transit guests were treated felt needlessly monitored, restrictive, and uncomfortable. I honestly don’t know what to make of it. Do better. Transit guests are still guests, and Ethiopian Airlines is paying for a service. A little respect and consistency would go a long way.
