Oasis Hotel Apartment

As someone born in Ethiopia and now a Canadian citizen, I found my recent stay at Oasis Hotel in Addis Ababa very disappointing. They refused my ETB payment after I arrived for my reservation, saying foreigners had to pay in USD at a rate far above the official exchange rate. That felt unfair and exploitative, and rejecting local currency on the basis of nationality is unacceptable. The hotel also smelled strongly unpleasant and wasn’t clean, and the front desk staff were unwelcoming. I urge the government to regulate these practices in the hotel industry, and I don’t recommend Oasis Hotel to foreign visitors.

The room wasn’t very comfortable, and the shower was my main issue. The towel still had dirt on it, like it had been used by another guest. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

On my first day here, the room was spacious and clean, and I didn’t notice any major issues. Five days later, though, I had the worst hotel experience I can remember. I was given a room key without anyone checking the room closely, and after dinner I found the bathroom full of roaches. The receptionist said she couldn’t move me since I’d already paid. Before bed I went to drink some water and found the bottle already open. When I called the receptionist, she said I had to buy it.

The location was great, near both the airport and the stadium, and the employees were so friendly. My room was very comfortable, and the food was amazing. I felt right at home at Oasis and really didn’t want to leave. Such lovely memories!
