I really liked sitting on the little terrace out front, and the coffee was the best I had there. The owner was very friendly and did our laundry for free because we were his “guests.” Staff were nice as well. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, the towels looked brand new, and restaurants and local shops were an easy walk away.
There’s something special about this place, though it gets too noisy.
Mr.Atakilti, the hotel owner, was incredibly kind and looked after me like family. When I was sick, he invited me to his home, gave me food and medicine, and did that several times. Thank you so much, Mr. Atakilti, and thank you, Ashu. I won’t forget you. The staff are helpful and kind, the price is reasonable, the WiFi is excellent, and the hotel is close to the city centre. It’s the best place I found in Axum.
The main sights in Axum are closer to this hotel than to most of the others on the main street. Ephram, the hotel’s “manager,” keeps offering guests tour packages around Axum and to Denakil, Simien, Tigray churches, and elsewhere. He came across as deceptive and a bit creepy, including appearing out of nowhere near the sights, and seemed to have a hand in many tours in Axum. Check prices and services around town before agreeing to anything.
