The location by Lake Tana is beautiful, with stunning views from different spots around the property. I went out on a boat ride and got a picturesque view of the hotel from the water. The serene setting and charming architecture make for a relaxing getaway. The staff were outstanding too, welcoming and attentive from the moment I arrived. They made me feel at home, went above and beyond to meet my needs, and shared helpful recommendations for local attractions. I highly recommend Grand Hotel Bahir Dar for its location and service. It’s a place to unwind and enjoy Ethiopia's landscape while being treated like family.

The hotel has a great view of the city and lake Tana, probably the best in the city, and the rooms are spacious. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast was fair and could be better. Some rooms had air conditioning problems, and I had to switch rooms because of mine. If working AC is a must for you, check it before settling in.

The view from my suite on the 14th floor was great, and there was plenty of space. That accounts for the two stars. The rest was a mess: no shower, the air conditioner didn't work, the jacuzzi was out of order, and the bed was unbalanced. Reception didn't seem concerned about any of it and made no effort to address the problems or my discomfort. It's a poorly managed, poorly maintained hotel. It's embarrassing to let guests book a suite in that condition, unless they're only coming for the view. At $120 a night, you should know what to expect.

The service was off the charts, and the building has room for most of the things you'd want from a resort. It's huge and tall, with a great view, and there's wheelchair accessible entry and elevators too. Rooms get pretty pricey, but I felt the cost was worth it, since the higher priced rooms are better. Basically, it's the best place to do anything.
