Palm Palace Hotel

I spent almost a month at Palm Place Hotel, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, in February 2021. The whole building and the rooms were clean, and the employees were very professional. I was especially happy with the customer service, from the receptionists to the cleaners, because my experiences at other star hotels have been different. The location was convenient whether I wanted to go to Lake Tana, take a taxi, or enjoy Ethiopian traditional night clubs.

The room had decent space and average furniture, and they provided a mosquito net. It was very dark even in daytime, with just one window, and the lamps could have been brighter and placed in more spots. The bathroom was a good size, but a shower left it flooded until it was cleaned again, so wear the right shoes to use the toilet. Breakfast was mediocre.

Palm Palace hotel is right in the heart of Bahirdar, with most places a walk away. I’ve traveled often and stayed at many hotels, and this one is among the most satisfying in several ways. The traditional and western dishes are another reason I choose it whenever I’m in town. Rooms are neat, well maintained, and have great city and lake views. Staff and room service are available 24 hours. There are also spacious, fully furnished meeting halls and a lovely terrace overlooking the city that can be used for events. I highly recommend Palm Palace hotel at Bahirdar, Ethiopia.

At 600 birr a night, this was the best value for money I found in Ethiopia. The central location and lovely terrace were a plus, and breakfast, available from 6 am, included an omelette and other things. The room was very clean and in very good condition, with just minor flaws. There was a mosquito net and hot water, though the water pressure wasn’t very good. The internet only worked on the first floor.
