Maribela Hotel

Mr Endalew was always willing to help, and the staff were all polite and nice. I especially want to mention the cook, whose food was delicious. The beautiful lobby was quiet and comfortable, and I enjoyed the complimentary coffee and snack there each afternoon. I stayed for two days. My first room was on the second floor, but because of my leg problem and the lack of an elevator, they moved me to one on the first floor. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated, with an incredible veranda view. There was no refrigerator, and the bathroom had only soap, no shampoo or shower gel.

The restaurant menu at night had just four dishes, though I don’t know if that was usual or because there weren’t many tourists. The breakfast buffet was simple but covered the basics, with eggs, bread, spreads and fruit. The bathrooms could use some attention, and most shampoo and soap bottles were empty. Still, this was a charming surprise of a hotel. We were welcomed with tea and flowers, and bougainvillea was laid across our beds. The views are hard to beat, and I loved the charismatic decor, with its 70's feel, many little details and funky furniture. We also enjoyed a delicious happy hour drink, and musicians and dancers came to perform one night. A really lovely experience.

We ate at the restaurant for three nights in a row, and the hostess was warm, sincere and had impeccable taste. She even invited us to join a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. We really think this is the best hotel in Lalibela. If you visit the city, don’t miss Hotel Maribela.

The room was spacious and had breathtaking views, the food was very good, and the staff were wonderful. Receptionist Endalew personally helped me organise a Shmigl, and now I’m happily engaged thanks to him. I’ll never forget my stay at Maribela Hotel. Highly recommend it!
