Hotel Matts

I stayed for six nights and loved the location, just a few steps from the bus, metro station, and mall. The hotel facilities were great, and the staff were kind and helpful. Breakfast was a simple buffet, but it was delicious.

I was disappointed by the service at Hotel Matts. I felt the staff were biased against foreigners and seemed to treat Finnish customers better, which was upsetting and surprising at a hotel where I expected an open, internationally minded welcome. People come from all kinds of backgrounds and should be treated with equal respect. That wasn’t my experience, so I wouldn’t come back or recommend the hotel.

Getting into the nearby Elixia gym with the room key card was a great perk. It made it easy to keep up my workout routine while traveling, and the gym facilities were top-notch. The staff were warm and attentive, and everyone I dealt with went out of their way to make things easy. My room was comfortable, the location was great, and the amenities were smart and convenient. Hotel Matts Helsinki made for a fantastic stay, highly recommended.

The room had lots of black hairs and dust, though they did arrange a different room for me. At breakfast, they served yogurt that was a month past its date, and didn’t provide a fresh one the next day despite promising to. The staff were rude and didn’t seem customer-oriented. Overall it was a very unpleasant stay. I can’t recommend it to vegans or anyone sensitive to spoiled food, such as pregnant people.
