Best Western Kumpeli

In July 2025, the view and swimming were amazing. When it’s hot, this place is a real gem. I gave it five stars, though breakfast is still very modest. On our April 2024 visit, the experience was good overall. The rooms felt a bit old-fashioned but were okay. The best part was the view, with the balcony right by the water. It was great to be able to swim outside after using the sauna. The spa was decent, nothing special. Breakfast was the low point: almost no vegan choices, and even without dietary restrictions it was pretty poor.

The surroundings are peaceful and full of beautiful Finnish nature, making this a great place for a retreat. There’s also downtown nightlife within walking distance, with clubs and restaurants. The hotel has spacious rooms, tasty food, a spa, a sauna, and a promenade along the lake. With those breathtaking landscapes, it’s one of my favorite hotels in Finland, and a must if you want to see Finnish Nordic nature at its best.

We visited on Wednesday and Thursday during the day and there were only a few other guests. The staff were very friendly, and the family-owned spa has lovely views across the river, which looks more like a big lake. I only wish they used real plants in the spa area. There’s so much natural light and moisture that they’d thrive there, so the plastic ones feel pointless.

Dinner was a highlight. The fresh salmon was the best I’ve ever had, and we ate while looking over the frozen lake. What an amazing view. The bar was great, the service very friendly, and the room was nice and spotless, overlooking the park. The sauna and spa could be better.
