Hostel Villa Kemi

Free coffee and cookies were available at the property, and the staff were super friendly, helping make our stay convenient with flexible check-in times. We stayed for 5 days. For 4 days we had a room with an attached bathroom, then spent the final day in one without. All the rooms were spacious, clean, and well maintained, and even the common washrooms were pristinely clean. It’s a great budget option, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the region. I’d also strongly suggest staying in Kemi, which is extremely beautiful and about 1.5 hours by bus or train from Rovaniemi. We found Rovaniemi itself very expensive and overrated.

Our room had a balcony with 3 inch snow on it. The hostel is budget friendly for a night’s stay, within walking distance of the railway station and the pickup point for Arktis cruise. There’s also a supermarket and pizzeria nearby.

The price should match the room’s standards, and this flat was very overpriced, especially in the off-season. It’s in a basement-garage with tiny up-windows and musty air. The room was quite dirty: socks and other things from the previous user were on the floor, dust was rolling around, the cupboards and walls were stained, and some handles were sticky. One bedsheet still had stains even though it had been washed, and the pillows were poor quality. The flat was right by a dusty construction site. We couldn’t really keep the windows open during the day because of the dust and noise, and it would’ve been good to know about that in advance. Maybe someone with a nonchalant lifestyle wouldn’t care about these things, but we won’t come again. I wish we’d spent the night elsewhere.

It’s a nice hostel with self service. Our room was good, the beds were good, and everything was very clean. Enjoy the beautiful city Kemi.
