Reindeer Manor Levi

Reindeer Manor feels special because of its remote, unusual setting. It’s quaint and comfortable rather than ultra high-end, and the northern lights were part of that experience: we saw them every night. The property is 15-20 minutes outside town, so there’s less light pollution. By nights four and five, we could watch from bed or the hot tub instead of standing in the cold. The accommodations are especially nice for a couple coming to see the lights. Jani, Henrick and every staff member made us feel welcome and at ease. The team worked well together, were very accommodating, and we enjoyed their company. The dining was impressive for a property this size. We had breakfast every day and dinner four of the five nights, and I think we tried the whole dinner menu. Lunch was included, but we were busy and had eaten enough at breakfast. In Levi, we also enjoyed Crab House, a must, and Ristorante Renna for Italian food. There are lots of activities on site, including a reindeer experience, husky sledding, snowmobiling and sauna. They can also coordinate other outings through their sister companies with the large tour group in town, “Artic Circle Snowmobile Park.” A taxi into town is easy if you want a change of scenery, about €50 each way. It’s hard to imagine a better first experience of Finnish Lapland.

Breakfast and dinner at the manor were a highlight. You can look straight into the reindeer shelter while you eat, and the dining room has cozy decor and a fireplace. Breakfast was delicious, well above standard, with both buffet and menu options. Our three-course dinner was so good, a real fine dining experience. We arrived after dark to find the manor lit up beautifully. The atmosphere was special from the moment we got out of the car. A very friendly woman welcomed us with tasty drinks by the fireplace and told us about the place. It was such a warm start to the trip. Our own igloo, or hut, felt magical as soon as we stepped in. The lighting, decor and furniture were lovely and cozy, and the view from the bed was stunning. Outside, our private jacuzzi was spotless, very warm, easy to set up and beautifully lit, with an amazing view. We changed into our bathing suits and robes and relaxed there. The staff were consistently excellent, very friendly and skilled. The woman who welcomed us also helped arrange some activities outside the manor, which we really appreciated. We saw the Northern Lights both nights, from the whirlpool and from our bed. Those two days and nights were among the best we've ever had, and we won't forget them. Out in the wilderness, with outstanding service and excellent local fine dining. The wine list has been updated and offers a good range of champagne, white and red wines. 10/10!

We booked through booking.com for our 10th anniversary and were really looking forward to visiting. When unexpected circumstances came up, we asked to change the dates. The app only let us send the property a request, and after that went nowhere, booking.com customer care said the property was responsive and told us to contact them directly. We chatted with the property on WhatsApp. In the first conversation, the representative said they couldn't cancel but might consider changing the dates. We shared possible new dates, which showed as available on their website. The chat had disappearing messages turned on, though, and two days later, after I followed up, they said they had no record of the request. They then said only booking.com could make changes, while booking.com kept telling us the property wasn't responding and to contact them. We lost the money and got NO DATE Change, despite asking multiple times. I'm sure the property is stunning and one of a kind, but customer service matters.
