Hotel Savonia

This was a terrible hotel. Everything seemed broken. Our card lost its magnetization at night, and nobody answered when we called every number we could find. Reception was shut, so we ended up spending the night in the wrong room. Others on my team had serious card trouble too. In my friend's room, a dusty, odd-looking lamp stayed on and couldn't be switched off. My room was cold as well: there's no air conditioning, and the radiator barely worked. The Wi-Fi was awful and simply didn't work. One star.

The rooms were quiet, and the beds and hot shower were definite pluses. Breakfast was simple but did the job. This is a standard hotel next to the hospital, though I felt it was missing some of the usual services. Parking is free, and food shops are nearby. Prices are about the same as at other hotels around Kuopio. Wi-Fi reaches well, but drops the connection too often, which brings the rating down for me.

I picked this affordable hotel for the free parking, since I was driving. It's a 15-20 minute walk from downtown, and there's not much around besides a few grocery shops and a pizzeria. If you don't mind walking into town, it's fine. The price and parking were what sold it for me.

Breakfast was good and uncomplicated, and the place was clean, quiet, and in a great spot. Guests can park for free. The service counter stayed closed throughout our visit, which felt odd, since the only employee was busy handling breakfast.
