Hotel Zilton

The rooms are clean and pleasant, and each has a fridge and microwave. There’s a coffee machine upstairs in the hall. The location is excellent, but the bathroom tiles and equipment could do with updating. Since there’s no staff, you need a door code. Breakfast is limited to toast, juice, coffee and some cheese and ham.

Being able to check myself in was one good thing, and the central location is nice. But the room smelled, and the bedding could've been cleaner. Breakfast was so poor I can hardly call it breakfast: no hot food, just porridge packets and a kettle, plus maybe one opened pack each of ham and salami and some sliced cheese on plates, butter with a few green leaves, and a small fridge. The black coffee was low quality, though the machine on the third floor had more choices. There’s no breakfast service, and the place is too expensive overall. Rooms on the first floor can be noisy, especially on Saturdays, with the restaurant playing loud music until midnight and nearby places keeping their music up afterward.

The beds were great, but on weekends the party music from downstairs was a real downside. It's also a self-service hotel.

I changed my rating from one star to three after someone more helpful called a couple of hours later with my door code, which let me get inside. Once I had the code, checking in was straightforward, and the room was clean and comfortable. At first, there was no reception desk, and although I had a booking, no door code had arrived. I called, but the person who answered was in Tampere and wouldn't help, so I decided to drive home.
