Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Mikkeli

It's easy to get around from this hotel, with city services and the railway station both within walking distance. There are lots of parking spaces at reasonable rates, too. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet, breakfast was good, and reception handled things efficiently. I'd recommend it if you need to stay in central Mikkeli.

The breakfast had plenty of options, but the scrambled eggs were awful and didn't really seem like eggs. The other hot food was disappointing too, and I would've liked more vegetables, both warm and cold. The café latte from the coffee machine and pancakes with maple syrup saved it for us. We stayed in a pet room with our two cats. It was nice to get a pet goodie bag, though it's a shame Sokos hotels always seem to include only dog stuff. The room itself was clean and great, with a good bed. The big TV with Chromecast was a nice surprise, as were the complimentary hot drinks, including the kettle and hot chocolate powder. The mini fridge was handy for our own drinks. We could hear car and train noise loudly, though. The jacuzzi in the sauna department was another pleasant surprise.

I tried to cancel well ahead of time. Trip.com said yes, but the hotel refused, so they're keeping my money even though they know I won't be staying. The hotel now blames Trip.com, even though the cancellation was refused by the hotel. They can cancel, but don't want to. Trip.com support tried its best to help. In my latest conversation, they said my previous cancellation request for booking No. 1609725365939226 at Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Mikkeli had been rejected by the hotel, not by them. Their message said I could contact customer service online to apply again and that they would do their best to resolve it. They also said they couldn't reach me and suggested chatting online or calling. The booking was for Jun 9, 2025 to Jun 12, 2025. The message was signed by Carlos from Customer Support.

The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the rooms were nice and clean. Having reception open 24/7 is a big plus. It's well located for getting around Mikkeli, with the train station close by. Parking is unfortunately very limited, and one of the parking halls had an awful feces smell. There were a few minor bugs, but for the price it was a great stay.
