The spa costs extra, and the guest discount is barely anything, which was a real downside. Food also needs more options. The restaurant was too expensive, so I got a small salad at the fast food place for €15.50, which wasn't worth it. On our second day we drove 4 km to the village for the only pizzeria that was open, and at least there the price, portion and quality felt fair. The location is great for being outdoors and enjoying nature, especially in summer. We brought our dog and got a very complete welcome pack for them, which was lovely. Our room had really nice views and the beds were so comfortable. Breakfast even had proper bacon.

The lake view from our huge room was amazing, and the interior was lovely. Everything felt modern, from the big TV to the bathroom lights that come on automatically and the rain shower. The bed was very comfortable too. There's plenty of opportunity nearby for hiking and swimming. Breakfast was great, and the staff were friendly. We'd happily come back anytime.

The spa is decent, and I hope the hotel will consider offering more vegetarian choices at dinner. Since this place is in the middle of nowhere, could room prices be lower, especially outside the busy season?

The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the staff wonderful. Such a beautiful setting too. I'd definitely recommend this resort.

We spent three nights at Break Sokos Hotel Bomba for a spa break, with other Finnish spas and places in Austria and Hungary as points of comparison. It was below -30 C during our visit. The hotel was expanding at the time, with a new lake-view building and restaurant planned for Summer 2024, so this review may be out of date by then. The spa was easily the best part of the stay. For relaxing, it may be the best one I've seen in Finland so far. It's less suited to a fitness-focused visit, but great if you want an outdoor jacuzzi, hot and cold pools, or water massages. There are three saunas, Finnish, Karelian and Osman, and we especially liked the Karelian one. It did get a little crowded at times, and I can imagine it may be busier once the new wing opens. Still, we might return in summer just for the spa. There were some frustrating snags. Spa entry wasn't included with our room, unlike what you might expect at a spa hotel. We had to buy either a single-entry ticket, which was a bit cheaper, or a day pass, and the passes came as entry bracelets. The day passes expired at 15:00, so we needed to renew ours on our last full day. When we went to reception at 15:27, it was overloaded and exchanging the bracelets took over half an hour. We weren't the only ones frustrated by the wait. The spa prices also felt a little steep, and service was occasionally rude. There were safety concerns as well. On our last day, people were stuck outside the door to the outdoor jacuzzi area because it no longer opened from outside. It was below -30 C. Luckily, I managed to get it open, then told the pool guard. She casually said the door can freeze in winter and they might have to close the area. The path to the jacuzzis was sometimes icy too. My partner fell, though thankfully no bones were broken. At least a warning would have helped. It left me wondering whether key areas of the spa are monitored properly. I also took a quick look at the gym. It seemed well equipped, though it's in the basement's required bomb shelter, and I wish they'd placed it somewhere with a lake view. The spa was worth visiting, and the location has real potential. It'll be interesting to see whether the renovation improves things.
