Postmaster Hotel

We’ve stayed at the Postmaster twice now, and loved it both times. On this visit we spent two nights there. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and laid out well, with room to unwind after a day out. Getting around was easy: you can walk into the city in 5-10 minutes. It’s a great place to stay in Lapland, and we’d happily return and recommend it.

The staff were all very polite, and the breakfast spread was really nice. There’s also a pleasant lounge to wait in. We booked a Double or Twin Room with City View, which was spacious and had cooking facilities, including an induction hob, microwave, and plenty of utensils. We stayed two nights on separate days and had a wonderful time. The hotel is right opposite Rovaniemi Bus Station and close to Rovaniemi train station. We walked to the train station with our luggage. On checkout day, we were taking a late evening train after spending a day elsewhere, and the staff kept our luggage overnight at no charge. I’d choose Postmaster Hotel again when we return to Rovaniemi.

The location was very handy, about a five-minute walk to the railway station and two minutes to the bus station in rovaneimi. The town centre is around 15 minutes away on foot, and there’s a supermarket five minutes away. The rooms are newly done up and have kitchenettes. They also offer tours for all activities onsite, and having a pin code for the rooms and main entrance after hours meant we didn’t need to carry a key card. The breakfast was nice, and the onsite restaurant served good, reasonably priced dinners, better than going into town just to eat. Snow overalls, including shoes and gloves, can be rented for 45 euro a day. There was only one staff member at reception handling all the work, so replies to questions were slow. We booked a room with a sauna, but its door was stuck and wouldn’t open, and reception couldn’t help. The room heating wasn’t working either, though the staff gave us an external heater that worked well. It was a bit disappointing not to have a Bidet in the bathroom, as we’d found one everywhere in Finland so far. These small infrastructure problems need sorting out. The lift is old style and needs both doors closed. Guests kept leaving them open, which was a pain for the staff too. They could install an automatic voice reminder.

I had extended my hotel stay by several days because I didn’t know when I could leave while waiting for a flight home. In the end, I had to go with two paid nights still unused. I was extremely disappointed to be told those nights would not be refunded. I’m certain the room was given to another guest after I left, so the hotel gained double payment for it. I feel they could have been more understanding and refunded me for the two nights I didn’t use.
