Santa's City Apartments

Getting inside was a mess. The front door was broken when I arrived, and I spent 45 minutes calling the provided contact numbers without getting an answer. I finally got in through another flat, only to find my room key wouldn’t work either. The lock was so stiff it felt like you had to break it to open it. A staff member appeared but didn’t even apologize for the problems. The flat is well placed for shops and tourist offices, but noise from the street and other flats made it impossible to sleep. I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again.

Please don’t stay here. The apartment is right above a club/karaoke, and the sound insulation is so poor that I’m writing this at 3:30am on my family’s last night in Lapland because we can’t sleep. We’ve been hearing bad singing for over five hours, on a Monday night. The karaoke runs every day until 4:30am, so I can’t imagine how weekends are. Foam earplugs are provided, but they don’t come close to making it possible to sleep. The place is old, and there’s no parking space. This was the worst place we stayed during our whole trip. We’ve stayed in several apartments and hotels in Rovaniemi and other Lapland cities, and I’m sure you can find much better places for the same price.

The one real plus of this homestay is that guests can cook. When I arrived, the old-fashioned elevator couldn’t be used because someone on an upper floor had left the gate open, so I had to carry my luggage up the stairs. The room was very dusty, especially the bed, and even the toilet paper roll had gone yellow with age. The place felt poorly maintained and not presentable.
