It’s very peaceful here, and the food is tasty. You can walk around and head down to the lake. I think the main building dates from the 19th century, or at least it’s been styled that way.

The plumbing is modern, though a little austere, while the furnishings and interior keep to the period style. It’s a 19th-century mansion with a past. The staff are polite but somewhat cool, in a way that felt typically Estonian, perhaps to underline the aristocratic tradition of the place. It’s a bit expensive.

In the off-season, the beach and pine trees are wonderfully quiet. The castle-hotel has charming, unusual architecture for the north, and there’s a very sweet wooden church nearby that feels warm and welcoming.
