Lapland Hotels Riekonlinna

I was stranded at the airport for nearly 40 hours after my flights were delayed and canceled three times during the North American winter storm, from January 25 to 27, 2026. Exhausted and at my limit, I called Lapland Hotels Riekonlinna after midnight to say I couldn't make it. I expected a hard conversation because their policy says there are no refunds within 8 days of arrival. Instead, the staff member asked if I was okay and said they'd seen the news. Once I explained what had happened, they offered a full refund right away and told me to go home and rest, hoping to welcome me another time. I was moved to tears. They treated me like a person in distress, not just a booking, and put the relationship ahead of short-term profit. That response was the opposite of Northern Lights Village, which refused both a refund and a credit voucher in the same situation. Riekonlinna showed compassion where Northern Lights Village didn't. If you're visiting Lapland, I'd recommend Lapland Hotels Riekonlinna. They've earned a customer for life.

The staff, food, service and location were all good, and we had a lovely few days at Riekonlinna. Our room was a twin with an extra bed for the three guests it was advertised to fit, and it felt much too small. The rooms look dated and are typical Finnish style. There were larger rooms, and we would have upgraded if we'd realized. We paid 9k for five of us for three nights, but honestly, we were paying for the Lapland experiences rather than the hotel. We knew we weren't booking luxury, and since we were mostly using the room to sleep, it wasn't a big issue. If we'd spent more time in it, we probably would have minded. I'd stay here again, just in a different room type.

Really well suited to a big group of kids, parents and grandparents. Nothing fancy, just good food and service, friendly staff, and we were well looked after. ❤️

I wouldn't stay here again. The rooms feel very dated, the food is average at best, and there was no shampoo or conditioner. The staff were rude and didn't seem well trained. I don't see how this counts as a 4 star hotel, 3 stars at most, maybe.
