The staff were nice, the rooms comfortable, and breakfast was amazing. Original Sokos Ilves is right in central Tampere, with two very good restaurants and all the usual facilities for a hotel like this. There are lots of other restaurants nearby, and a shopping center right next door. You can reach it directly through one of the hotel restaurants without going outside.

It’s one of the oldest hotels in the city center, close to the central bus station and downtown. There’s a good sauna, swimming pool and gym. A covered walkway connects the hotel to the Koski Keskus mall, where there’s a supermarket and food places with cheaper prices.

The staff were welcoming and flexible about our unusually timed arrival. The hotel seems to have been renovated fairly recently, and the rooms feel fresh and modern. Its location is perfect for exploring Tampere, and breakfast was great. Since I was in Tampere, I hoped to find black sausage, or black pudding, at breakfast, and there it was, yay! My only complaint is that I had just a few hours here to sleep and eat. The stay was so positive that I’m thinking of planning a weekend in Tampere soon so I can spend more time here and try the pool.

The view from our room was amazing, and the breakfast buffet was great too. We really enjoyed our staycation here. It costs a bit more, but I thought it was worth it and would highly recommend the hotel.

The city center location was a plus, and it’s not a bad hotel, but my two-night stay didn’t feel like a four-star experience. My husband and I had separate single beds pushed together, which wasn’t comfortable, and there were no bathrobes in the room. There wasn’t a closet either, so we kept our clothes in our suitcases. The gym and pool had very limited hours. Breakfast didn’t offer much variety, and charging extra for a cappuccino that’s already part of breakfast made no sense.
