Gasthaus Vaala makes a handy base or pit stop for exploring the Oulujärvi region, north of Oulujärvi itself. The rooms were better than I expected for this price, and the service was kind and helpful.

We stopped in once for a summer mother-and-son outing. The food was good, prices reasonable, and the place calm, with a clean toilet. The lady serving us was friendly and nice.

It was easy to check in late, and I could bring my bike inside. After cycling, I was glad the sauna could be heated so I could wash off the sweat. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms and shared kitchen, toilet, and sauna were clean. Breakfast supplies were easy to pick up at the shop next door. Good value for money.

There are several shared toilets, and the sauna and shower room are downstairs. The kitchen is large and has all the utensils and equipment you need to cook. The outside and low price might give the wrong impression, but the rooms are really comfortable and the bed is good. I recommend it!

It was quiet there, with no major noise even over Midsummer. I was disappointed to find the restaurant closed, and they could have told me when I arrived. I would have enjoyed the grill plate and a beer, but didn't get either.
