Gecko's Resort

The staff made our stay memorable. They were always smiling, warm, and ready to help, and the resort was meticulously clean, from the rooms to the grounds. It feels like a property that was once five-star, though age and wear are showing now, which is why we gave Geckos Resort three stars despite the service deserving five. Having a car made the central Coral Coast location convenient. Shangri-La Resort is across the road, Bisuewa Village and Waterfalls are nearby, and Yadua shopping complex is about five minutes away. We thought Blue Zone Mediterranean Restaurant there was a must-visit. Across the road, the river views and sunsets were beautiful, and seeing local children swim and play, polite and full of joy, was a lovely glimpse of everyday life. Even after staying at a more luxurious hotel, we loved Geckos for its genuine hospitality and the taste of Fiji, its culture, and its people. We’d stay again for that experience and value.

The dancers were fantastic and the food was good, though not great value next to Junction Cafe across the road. It doesn’t feel like the bargain it used to, unless you catch the fire dancing. We used to come here to get away from the restaurants and prices at Shangri La.

The chicken schnitzel was amazing, and we felt at home from the start. My partner and I spent ten nights here, and both the place and the staff were lovely. They made the trip special and personal, and we felt welcome and safe. When heavy rain caused flooding, the women at the front desk kept smiling, lifted everyone’s mood, and had us laughing. Geckos is affordable and gave us a real taste of Fiji. I can’t recommend it enough, though the amenities and exterior deserve an upgrade to match how great the place and people are.

I gave the hotel plenty of notice when I needed to cancel and explained my situation, but they replied with a copy-and-paste policy and insisted on charging the full booking. There was no empathy or willingness to offer even a partial refund or credit for a future stay. If plans have to change, you could be left out of pocket. Policies are one thing, but the cold, dismissive handling of a genuine case says a lot. I strongly recommend booking somewhere else.
