Capricorn International Hotel

After eight years of coming back, this was easily my worst stay. It used to be a hotel with great service, and I suspect the new management may have something to do with the change. I stayed seven nights and six days last week. Vandana at the bar and Monoj from maintenance were the only people who really acknowledged us and showed customer service. At the front desk, concerns were ignored, nobody followed up, and the manager did not check back. Staff even spread gossip that guests come in and cause a fight when they raise a complaint. A friend who came to see me said she had heard the same talk outside the hotel. At check-in, an elderly guest who walked with a cane was given a second-floor room despite repeatedly explaining that he could not use the stairs. There is no elevator. Only after a scene at reception was he moved to the first floor. The three doors in our family room, both bedrooms and the bathroom, were hard to open. I was also concerned that the fire extinguisher had not been inspected in two years. I can't recommend this hotel unless things change. I'm happy to discuss my experience with the owner.

The hotel had caught fire and was closed, but I didn't get a notice about my reservation until three weeks after the fire and just one week before I was due to arrive. From the photos and news coverage I saw by searching “Google Capricorn hotel fire,” it seemed very unlikely the hotel would reopen anytime soon.

The pool was nice and the Fijian people were lovely. The Indian people, not so much. The room was tiny, the blankets had holes, and the TV had no remote. We also had to pay for Wi-Fi. We left a day early to head to the islands because the noise at night made it impossible to sleep. There was a nightclub going full blast across the road and another next door 😂. The hotel is right in the heart of Nadi.

The location works well, with shops and restaurants right next door, and Denarau close enough if you've rented a car. Staff were pretty good, to be fair. But the place really needs some TLC and a full overhaul. You get what you pay for.
