Captain Cook Cruises Fiji - Reef Endeavour

Last year, in 2022, my wife and son took the Kadavulailai day Cruise. We came back this year as a family and had an absolute blast. The friendly smiles and welcoming “Bula” made a lovely start, and the island is beautiful, tucked among a paradise of islands. A huge thank you to the hard-working crew and staff of the Spirit of the Ocean for making it a trip to remember. We took heaps of photos to keep the memories. The lunch was the best we've had on our tours, yum. On the trip home, our bus driver was informative and fun. The food, music and singing onboard were great too, and the whole cruise had a really inclusive feel. The crew were friendly and helpful from start to finish, and Bela, Wesi and Ben were amazing, just a few of the people who stood out. Everything ran so smoothly. From the lively atmosphere to the fantastic lunch, the whole cruise was wonderful. The Captain Cook Fiji Cruises staff were so lovely, fun and full of energy. They paid attention to every passenger and were accommodating throughout. I'd love to go back!

The staff were friendly, smiling and caring, even though they didn't explain the problems clearly. Everything else made this a deeply disappointing and frightening day. In all, we spent seven hours on what felt like a dangerous, poorly maintained boat for just one hour on Tivua Island. I'd suggest Malamala or another operator instead. At Denarau, we waited over an hour in the blazing sun with our two young kids because the boat had broken down. Once it was supposedly repaired, we boarded and found only one engine running, with what seemed like toxic diesel fumes filling the cabin. We set off very slowly. The morning tea was uninspiring, and the enclosed cabin felt suffocating, sweaty and full of fumes. After hours onboard, we were told the island arrival would be delayed by another two hours, though the trip was meant to take one hour. They brought lunch forward, but the buffet was barely worth eating. Staff tried to keep increasingly frustrated guests calm, while communication stayed minimal. We finally got to Tivua at 2:30pm, then were rushed off after an hour, despite the advertised five-hour island stay. Facilities were tired and run-down, though manageable. Engineers tinkered with the engine while we were there, and when we boarded again, it wouldn't start. A tropical storm brought heavy rain and wind as the lone engine eventually spluttered to life. We limped home at reduced power, with multiple breakdowns along the way. Each time we were left stranded in open water as waves hit the boat. We moved to the upper deck for safety and seriously discussed what we'd do if we sank. That was terrifying with a one- and three-year-old onboard. We made it back to Denarau in the dark. The vessel we sailed on and other Captain Cook boats at the marina appeared to be in shocking disrepair. In my opinion, many looked unseaworthy. See images. Save yourself the stress and risk.
