The diving is excellent, with only a 15-minute boat ride, and the dive masters and captains are knowledgeable and careful about safety. Rainbow Reef is gorgeous. The staff, from the grounds crew to the servers and maids, were all super friendly. The food tasted great, with two choices at lunch and dinner, plus several breakfast options. There’s also a lovely infinity pool. Each room is a spacious, beautiful, separate bure, and everything was clean and tidy. It’s an eco-friendly resort, so there’s no air conditioning or hairdryer, but the ceiling fans are really strong. Wifi is only available around the restaurant and pool. Don’t let that put you off Taveuni Dive Resort. Get to Rainbow Reef!

The dive boats are less than a five-minute walk down to the little private bay, and you can dive two or three times a day, or even four or five if you find a buddy. Trips need at least two divers. The diving was fantastic, with healthy colorful coral and amazing sea life. The place feels peaceful and off-grid, and runs entirely on solar power. Our bungalow was lovely; there’s no air conditioning, but nights were cool and comfortable. Everyone was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring, from the chef and dive masters to the servers and managers. The food was excellent and à la carte. You choose lunch at breakfast and dinner at lunch. The bar has a great range of drinks too. Ideal if you’re after diving, comfort, and nature together. Highly recommend! Also, there are a few friendly pups at the hotel site, which is a plus.

Our third Fiji trip brought us to Taveuni Dive Resort, an off-grid operation that was extremely well run and a great base for exploring the Somosomo Straight. This time our nephew and his fiancé joined us from the UK. The diving exceeded our expectations, with healthy corals, plenty of reef fish, sharks, and mantas. We were there during a full moon cycle, and the currents seemed to bring in larger creatures. We saw Black Tip, White Tip, and Gray Reef sharks, including several baby White Tips sleeping under coral shelves. At Freeway, a curious Hammerhead came within 6 meters and turned to look at us while we were signaling to the others about a Manta approaching. Reef and Oceanic Mantas appeared on many dives and at the surface, and dolphins graced us twice on the way to the dive sites. There were seemingly endless schools of Fusilliers, clouds of Anthias, Butterfly Fish, and Angel Fish, plus large Barracuda schools on several dives. We also saw large schools of Red Snapper and Trevally, a few Spanish Mackerel and sizable Grouper, Huge Napoleon Wrasse, schools of Regal Tang, several kinds of Anemone Fish, Sweet Lips, and Lionfish. It was fun watching Trigger Fish shift coral and rocks while foraging. We also saw microscopic Sea Horses. Our earlier Fiji trips were in 2012 and 2016 aboard the Naia in the Bligh Waters. In 2016, we made a short Rainbow Reef excursion because Cyclone Winston had affected many dive sites around the Bligh Waters.

We were lucky to spend about a week diving at this wonderful resort. The reef is full of color and life you just can’t see on a computer screen. At different times there are whales, sharks, and Manta. The diving was great and safe, the rooms clean and comfortable, and the food was awesome. The staff care so much, and the owners are committed to making a world-class resort. It feels family-first and focused on protecting the reef, while still giving you a proper retreat. Mr. C & Mrs. M have built an eco-friendly place with a caring team. Hal runs a tight ship on island time, but somehow departures are still on schedule. Diving begins around 0730 to 0800, and the boats leave on time. Hal is a great Master of Diving, and his DiveMasters take good care of guests. We had the resort to ourselves for a week with my crew and family, and I hope to return soon. Thanks for letting us take it over, and God bless Y'all.

We’ve visited Fiji four times, and this was our first trip to Taveuni and Taveuni dive resort. The diving was great for several days, the food was the best we’ve had in the Fijian islands, and the service crew were incredibly friendly. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had private patios. It’s a fantastic place, almost like heaven and much easier to get to. We’ll be back!
