Hotel Hafnia

The cottages beside Hotel Hafnia look cute and cozy, and the cottage and bathroom were clean. The location is excellent for exploring Tórshavn, and breakfast at the main hotel was delicious with plenty of options. The main hotel also looked much nicer inside. But our stay in the cottages was very unpleasant, and I would strongly avoid them and choose the main hotel instead. We had five people in a two-floor cottage advertised for up to six, and it already felt too cramped. Sharing one bathroom was inconvenient. The shower design lets water run onto the floor, leaving the wood stained black and possibly developing fungi, and the hot water ran out quickly. The upstairs rooms were simple and clean, but their lights flickered constantly. Wall-mounted radiators provided heating, but there weren't any upstairs, so those rooms got quite cool at night. The whole wooden building creaked loudly with every step, and sound insulation was extremely poor. Worst of all, the cottages sit right beside a pub, and every night we heard shouting, loud conversations, and general noise until very late. It was so loud that sleep became extremely frustrating, and rest was nearly impossible throughout our stay. We also had repeated internet outages and limited parking. We had to keep adjusting the time disc in the car. Staff advised us not to drink the tap water, unlike at most other places in the Faroe Islands.

The cottage worked really well for our group. It slept six and had a dining space, sofa, patio, and a kitchen area without a stove. The hotel is also perfectly placed for getting around the city centre, and the rooms are modern and nice. Breakfast wasn't part of our booking; we tried it once and thought it was OK. I'd definitely come back.

You’re right in the middle of town, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable, but so small for two that there was hardly anywhere to put our things without tripping over them. There’s no hotel parking, though a few car parks are nearby.

The annex is across a small open area, and getting luggage up the metal stairs could be a problem if you can’t carry it. It’s close to town, the staff were friendly, and the location was good. I’d come back if there were discounts.
