Le Permayou

We had a lovely meal outside, with snow-capped mountains making the whole setting feel magical. The food and drinks were great, and our waiter was friendly and chatty. He said he'd been to California, San Diego, I think.

The location is handy for hiking trails, with a reasonably sized supermarket and a small gas station next door. It's one of the better places to stay in the area, and the hotel seems to have been tastefully renovated, though a while ago. The restaurant serves decent, generous portions, but meals can take a while and I found the food a bit too salty. In summer, the flies in the countryside are a constant nuisance, dead and alive, and the staff are forever trying to keep them off your food. The room has an electric kettle but no cups, tea, or coffee, which I couldn't understand. Even with a portable fan, it can get warm in very hot weather. A small bar fridge for cold water would make a big difference after a long hike on a hot summer day.

I went for the breakfast option and also chose a pique nique. The portions were really good and felt like good value. The owner was attentive and quick to respond, and our comfortable, well-kept accommodation suited a peaceful stay in this picturesque mountain village. The only drawback is that dinner is served at the restaurant only from Thursday through Sunday.

After a long motorcycle trip, we found this restaurant while staying in Borce. We arrived late, but the staff still made us feel welcome and did what they could to accommodate us. Between us we managed a little French, Spanish, and English, and shared some laughs and jokes. The food was very good, so we came back the next day.
