Camping Le Rochelongue

The pool, terrace and clean shower block were all good, and most units should manage the pitches without much trouble. You’re also close to the beach, bars and restaurants, with Cap de Agde about a mile away and easy to reach by bike. The site uses wristbands to keep non-paying visitors from using the facilities. Book ahead, perhaps through ACSI, because this popular tourist area fills up and you may be turned away otherwise.

There’s a nice pedestrian area nearby with restaurants, shops and bars, and it’s about a 10-minute walk to the seafront. From the campsite bus stop, Cap D’agde is 15 minutes away and costs €1. The pitches are roomy, the toilet and shower blocks are excellent, and reception was very helpful. It’s a shame sites like this have to close in September when so many motorhomes are still looking for somewhere to stop.

The pool and club make noise, but you’re not allowed to talk outside your tent in the evening or stay out there at night. Showers aren’t available in the evening, and when you can use one, you have to press the button every 3 seconds.

We came back after a break during Covid, having visited this much-loved campsite for years, but it felt like a different place. Reception wasn’t friendly, and they said pitches couldn’t be booked, though we met people who’d reserved theirs for the following year. It left me wondering if they just don’t like English people. The site looks tired, and the pool needs cleaning and investment. Broken paving around it is dangerous. The showers are okay, but you need a wristband to start them and only get 9 minutes. It feels more like a business than a friendly campsite. There are plenty of lovely campgrounds in this beautiful area, so we’ll choose one of those next time.
